The Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad (ISSI) held an in-house meeting today with Brig. (Retd) Feroz Hassan Khan, faculty member National Security Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey California, and his team including Brigadier (R) Naeem Salik, Ambassador (R) Ali Sarwar Naqvi, Dr. Mansoor Ahmad, and Sannia Abdullah.

Brig. Hassan briefed the research team at ISSI on a Table Top Exercise “Cascading Effects of Limited War between India and Pakistan under a Nuclear Overhang: Testing the Assumptions” held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in February 2015, which brought together experts from India, Pakistan and the United States.

The aim of the exercise was to simulate a crisis situation between India and Pakistan in order to gauge the stability, or instability of the situation, escalation control, and war termination mechanisms between Pakistan and India.

The lessons drawn from this exercise were that better signaling mechanisms, as well as de-escalatory and war termination mechanisms were needed to be developed between both the countries.
