UN Envoy: Afghan Government Faces 5 Challenges to Survival

UNITED NATIONS — Afghanistan’s national unity government faces five hurdles this year and failure to overcome any one of them could spell disaster, the top U.N. envoy in the country warned Tuesday.

“For 2016, survival will be an achievement for the national unity government,” Nicholas Haysom told the U.N. Security Council. “Survival cannot mean inaction, or merely ‘treading water.’ It means active engagement in confronting these challenges.”
