Pakistan’s Success in Countering Terrorism

629

Pakistan had been on the path of eliminating terrorism and militancy long before the initiation of the National Action Plan, which came immediately after Army Public School (APS) attack. The year 2015 witnessed major initiatives to curb and eliminate terrorism in all forms. The greatest challenge to Pakistan’s security came in the form of a brutal terrorist attack resulting in the massacre of innocent children at APS in Peshawar on December 16, 2014. The first National Internal Security Policy (NISP) was approved in February, 2014 with the aim of wiping out terrorism, establish the writ of the state and implement counter-terrorism measures. The NISP is divided into three parts: strategic, operational and secret.
