ISLAMABAD: The government on Friday signalled its willingness to ‘meaningfully’ re-engage with Afghanistan after a brief breakdown in ties, but conditioned its help for resumption of Afghan peace talks to Kabul’s explicit request for such a role.
This was conveyed to UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Nicholas Haysom, who met Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz for discussions on relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan; and the prospects for resumption of the reconciliation process specially in the context of the role other regional players could play.
