ISLAMABAD: Amid fears that Pakistan might be downgraded to Tier 3 on the US human trafficking watchlist, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday launched a nationwide crackdown against human traffickers.

On the special directives of Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan and under the close supervision of the senior officers of FIA, seven raiding teams were formed which raided the targeted human smugglers throughout Rawalpindi Division on actionable intelligence. In seven successful raids, at least seven human traffickers and one proclaimed offender were nabbed. As many as 89 passports have been seized from those detained and cases have been registered against them under Passport Act and Emigration Ordinance.
