PARIS/ NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi scored diplomatic points in Paris when he reached out to Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif with a handshake on the sidelines of the leaders’ event at the climate change conference in Paris. Modi and Sharif are among the 154 heads of state and government attending the day-long event at the United Nations-sponsored climate talks.
The two prime ministers shook hands and then spent a few minutes chatting with each other. Though such impromptu conversations are par for the course at large multilateral meetings, the Modi-Sharif conversation is significant as this is the first meeting since the BRICS summit at Ufa in July.
