CAMEA (ISSI) –  Stimson Center South Asia Program Discussion on Afghanistan

The Centre for Afghanistan Middle East and Africa (CAMEA) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) hosted an in-house meeting with Ms. Elizabeth Threlkeld, Senior Fellow and Director, Stimson Center South Asia Program. Other members of the delegation included Dr. Francis O’Donnell, Fellow and Deputy Director, Stimson Center South Asia Program Zeba Fazli, Research Associate, Stimson Center South Asia Program and Uzair Sattar, Research Assistant, Stimson Center South Asia Program.

During the meeting, Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan were discussed and the situation in Afghanistan was discussed at length and Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan as well as the regional perspectives on the issue. There was an exchange of views regarding the question of recognition of the Taliban regime by the international community, economic challenges, women’s rights, border management issues and counterterrorism issues in Afghanistan and the urgent need to remain engaged with the political dispensation in Afghanistan to avert a breakdown of the state was also discussed.
