ISSI Organizes Three-Day Chinese Language and Culture Training Program

The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), in collaboration with the China Culture Center in Pakistan, organized three-day Chinese Language and Culture Training Program, titled “The Language of the Eastern Silk Road: Bridging China and Pakistan, Celebrating Shared Cultural Splendor,” from 7–9 September 2026 at ISSI, Islamabad.
The program was designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of the Chinese language and provide an insight into China’s rich cultural heritage, traditions and contemporary way of life. It also aimed to promote greater cultural understanding and people-to-people exchanges between Pakistan and China.
The first day focused on an introduction to Chinese culture, with sessions covering China’s food, lifestyle, festivals, heritage, calligraphy, infrastructure and everyday life. The sessions provided participants with a broader perspective on the diverse and evolving dimensions of Chinese society and culture. The second day introduced participants to the basics of Mandarin Chinese, including commonly used phrases, greetings, everyday expressions, Pinyin phonetics, pronunciation and Chinese characters. The interactive session enabled participants to develop a basic familiarity with the Chinese language and its practical usage. The third and final day highlighted the artistic and traditional dimensions of Chinese culture, with particular focus on Chinese calligraphy and major traditional festivals. Participants explored the cultural significance of these traditions and experienced calligraphy as an important form of Chinese cultural expression, reflecting the continuity of China’s cultural heritage across generations.
The three-day training was enriched by offering participants insights into Chinese language, culture, traditions and everyday practices. The interactive format encouraged participants to engage directly with the cultural content and facilitated a meaningful exchange of perspectives.
The program brought together students from diverse academic backgrounds, members of the think-tank community, media, and ISSI Research faculty, providing a diverse and interactive platform for cultural learning and engagement.
