India’s continuing march for military modernization

The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) held a Roundtable Discussion on India’s continuing march for military modernization on February 11, 2020 under the 9th round of its Tuesday Dialogue series. Tuesday Dialogue is a non-attributable informal discussion under Chatham House rules on key issues of importance to Pakistan, and brings together experts, academics, former diplomats and others for free floating discussion. The objective of the series is to generate ideas for providing policy inputs to the government.

The Dialogue was attended by Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman; Lt. Gen (R) Talat Masood; Dr. Rifaat Hussain, NUST; Ambassador Tariq Osman Hyder; Mr. Khalid Banuri and Brig. (R) Rashid Wali Janjua-IPRI. The discussion focused on how India’s continuing military modernization is going to impact regional peace and security, strategic stability and peaceful conflict resolution. The discussants also talked about the options that are available for Pakistan to safeguard its national security interests considering the current scenario in which India is rapidly enhancing its military capabilities and procuring modern military equipment and technology.
