The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) held a Roundtable Discussion on Pakistan-Russia Relations on April 30, 2019 under the fourth round of its Tuesday Dialogue series. Ambassador Aizaz Chaudhry, Director General, ISSI moderated the discussion which was held under Chatham House rules.
Of late, Pakistan and Russia have made discernable efforts to strengthen their bilateral relationship. The cooperation has been most visible in the defense field pursuant to an agreement in 2014. However, the economic component of the relationship has not progressed at the desired level, though attempts are being made for boosting cooperation in trade, energy, agriculture and other domains. On Afghanistan, both countries are convinced that peace in Afghanistan will enhance regional stability.
