The Communist Party of China (CPC) was established in 1921 with just over fifty members. Today it leads the world’s second-largest economy and governs a country of more than 1.4 billion people. Over the past century, China has undergone significant transformations led by the CPC. These include; national reconstruction, industrialization, reform and opening up, poverty alleviation, technological advancement, and modernization. The year 2026 marks the 105th anniversary of the CPC, the occasion provides an opportunity to reflect upon one of the most remarkable political stories of modern times. These achievements have generated considerable international interest regarding the factors that have enabled the CPC to remain resilient, adaptive, and effective over such an extended period. The Party’s journey offers important insights into governance, institution-building, long-term planning, and political organization.
