The visit of the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, to Islamabad on 1 June 2026 for the eighth round of the Pakistan–European Union Strategic Dialogue came at a consequential moment in regional and global politics. Co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and HR/VP Kallas, the Dialogue reflected the growing institutional maturity of Pakistan–EU engagement under the 2019 Strategic Engagement Plan. It also demonstrated that the relationship is gradually moving beyond its traditionally trade-centred framework towards a broader agenda encompassing multilateral diplomacy, regional security, counterterrorism, migration, labour mobility, human rights, climate resilience, connectivity, and sustainable development.[1]
