Issue Brief on “Pakistan at the UN: Responding to Israel’s Strike in Qatar”

In yet another egregious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional states, an Israeli strike struck targets in Doha, Qatar, on 9 September 2025. The Israeli strike prompted massive outrage across the Gulf countries and intense diplomatic activity at the United Nations, culminating in an urgent Security Council meeting.[1]

The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, called the Israeli attack an act of state terrorism and affirmed that Qatar will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty, territorial integrity, or security.[2]  Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary A. Dicarlo condemned this strike as a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and questioned the motive of the strike as it targeted individuals who were gathered to discuss the latest U.S. proposal for a ceasefire and hostage release deal in Gaza.[3]
