Introduction
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar has recently concluded a historic 2-day official visit to Dhaka, Bangladesh. What makes it historic is the fact that this was the first bilateral visit by a Pakistani Foreign Minister in 13 years. During the visit, the two countries signed 6 agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering diverse sectors. Besides, the Pakistan delegation engaged closely with Bangladeshi Ministers and high officials. Apart from his meeting with Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus, DPM/FM Dar interacted with leadership of various political parties. With this visit, Pakistan-Bangladesh relations have entered a new phase. The DPM’s wide-ranging engagements beyond official interactions and the signing of several important documents reflect a positive trajectory in bilateral relations. While capitalizing on the new-found warmth in relations, the two countries would need to navigate a challenging path to fully realize opportunities and infuse life into the new understandings and agreements.
