Heavy monsoon rains, flash floods, and excessive water release from Indian dams into Pakistani rivers have severely impacted Punjab, Sindh, and KPK. [1] For the first time in three decades, water levels in the Chenab and Sutlej rivers reached a critical high, inundating millions of hectares of crop land in Pakistan’s agricultural heartland. According to the Pakistan Business Forum, approximately 60% of the rice crop, 35 % of cotton, and 30% of sugarcane in Punjab have been damaged. The Forum has urged the federal government to declare an agricultural emergency to address agro-economic losses. [2] These floods have far-reaching implications for national food security and economic stability, causing food shortages, rural poverty, inflation, and trade imbalances.
