Since the ceasefire of May 10, 2025, between India and Pakistan, the respective Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) have interacted several times. Such interactions, although limited in scope and instituted long ago, have also been facilitated in the wake of latest India-Pakistan escalation by third party interlocutors – primarily the U.S. and friendly countries – who have urged the two sides to hold structured and high-level dialogue on a broad range of issues. However, the path towards sustained and result-oriented dialogue remains complicated due to New Delhi’s hardened political stance and Islamabad’s aversion to engaging on unfavourable terms. This indicates that without strategic recalibration, the prospects of any broad-based and comprehensive dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, who just pulled back from the brink, appear slim at this juncture.
