After the May 2025 India-Pakistan conflict, Pakistan and the U.S. have reinvigorated their bilateral relations, particularly in the domain of counterterrorism and economic cooperation. On 12 August 2025, Pakistan and the United States reaffirmed their commitment to counterterrorism and agreed to develop effective approaches to address threats posed by ISIS-Khorasan, Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), and Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) through the U.S.-Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue.[1] The United States acknowledged Pakistan’s role in countering terrorist entities that are a challenge to global peace and security.
Alongside this, the Trump administration, has also expressed interest in bilateral economic cooperation, including minerals and hydrocarbons, as well as promoting business partnerships.[2] The U.S. interest in investments in Pakistan and the Counterterrorism Dialogue are timely measures to advance the broad-based bilateral relations. The two aspects – economic cooperation and counterterrorism – are deeply interlinked, with progress in one reinforcing the other, particularly in Balochistan.
