Introduction
On September 24, 2025, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan brought up the issue of Jammu and Kashmir again during his speech at the 79th United Nations General Assembly session. He said, “The Kashmir issue should be settled based on UN resolutions for the benefits of our Kashmiri brothers and sisters, through dialogue”.[1] This isn’t the first time Ankara has raised the Jammu and Kashmir issue on international platforms.[2] President Erdoğan has consistently called for a peaceful solution in line with international law, often leading to strong reaction from India. Turkey has long supported the right of self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, while also carefully balancing its position based on its relations with Pakistan, India, and the broader Muslim world.
