India restores Samjhota Express service

LAHORE/MUZAFFARABAD: India has finally agreed to resume Samjhota Express train service, days after Pakistan’s Foreign Office expressed concerns on suspension of the train operation.Some 200 passengers were affected last Thursday when Samjhota Express was stopped at the Wagah Border by the Indian authorities citing potential security risks due to protests by farmers in Indian Punjab.Besides Samjhota Express, several trains like New Delhi-Amritsar Shatabadi were also affected due to the agitation by farmers who have blocked the Delhi-Amritsar rail route.A spokesman of Pakistan Railways said that the Indian Railway authorities have confirmed resumption of the service. He said that Samjhota Express will leave Thursday (today) as usual.
