The tragic developments in the Gaza strip, which started unfolding in the aftermath of 7 October 2023 attack continue unabated is what can best be described as a “genocide” aimed at eliminating the Palestinians. The last eleven months have witnessed nothing but destruction and mass scale atrocities — killing, injuring, and paralyzing men, women and children. In what began with the attack by the Al-Qassam Brigade, the military arm of Hamas, Israel responded by declaring a state of ‘war’ against Hamas, resulting in a ceaseless campaign of indiscriminate and disproportionate use of force against the Palestinian civilian population in Gaza. This unprecedented violence has led to a reevaluation of the historical viewpoint of colonization as well as international legal norms and the resultant outcomes of suppressing non-violent resistance through military means. The massive destruction and the human toll underscore the urgent need to protect civilian lives and implement an immediate cease-fire. The implications of this ongoing crisis are both regional and global.
