Round Table: Delegation from the National Defense College, Nasser High Military Academy of the Arab Republic of Egypt

The Centre for Afghanistan Middle East and Africa (CAMEA) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), hosted a roundtable discussion with a delegation from the National Defense College, Nasser High Military Academy of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The delegation was headed by Major General Sameh Saber Ahmed EI-Dagwy, Director General National Defence College, other  members of the delegation included; Major General Mostafa Abdel-Mutelb Nassar, Adviser High War College,  Major General Sameer Mohamed Ahmed Badawy, Adviser National Defence College, Brig. Ehab Fakry Youssef Youssef Mostafa,Brig. Khaled Esmail Taha EI-Nahrawy , Brig. Shady Mohamed Hamdy Ramadan Morsy ,Brig. Ashraf Mohamed Alwan Mohamed Masoud ,  Brig. Mohamed Saeed Ahmed Abdel-Hameed Awad ,Colonel Khaled Saeed Mohamed Ahmed EI-Laasan, Colonel Alaa Eldin Ahmed Ibrahim Dasouqy, Colonel Amr All Afify Mohamed ,Colonel Alaa Eldin Talat Mohamed Abdel-Hady,  Colonel Mohamed Shahta Abdel-Aal All EI-Eid, Colonel Ahmed Osama Abdel-Hady Abu-Owf,  Brig. Wael Khairy Mohamed Saleh Dahshan , Colonel Shareef Rashad Ahmed Suleman. The delegation was welcomed by Director General ISSI, Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhary and Director CAMEA, Ms Amina Khan.

The delegation was given a briefing on the working of the Institute of Strategic Studies by Ms. Amina Khan. Director CAMEA, also shed light on the various facets of the Institute.

Ambassador Aizaz Ahmed Chaudray gave an overall analysis of the regional situation and Pakistan’s relations with Egypt were also discussed. He stated that the world is undergoing a transformation and the world order is shifting from unipolarity to multipolarity and several changes are taking place. Unilateralism is rising and multilateralism is declining and the norms of the liberal world order are not being observed. Along with the changing world order, Islamophobia and Xenophobia are also on rise, he stated.

Discussing the region and the challenges being faced by Pakistan he highlighted the hegemonic designs of India under the Modi Regime;  the Afghanistan crisis, as it most severely affects Pakistan;  balancing relations with US and China in view of Sino-US  rivalry; and defusing tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran while maintaining neutrality.

While talking about Egypt he said that Egypt is greatly respected in Pakistan due to its leadership role in the Middle East and its rich history. Moreover, Egypt is playing a major role in the region, he concluded.
