Roundtable with Ambassador Ian Biggs

The Arms Control and Disarmament Centre (ACDC) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) organized a roundtable with Ambassador Ian Biggs, Australia’s Ambassador for Arms Control and Counter-Proliferation on Thursday, September 22, 2022.

In his introductory remarks, Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Director General ISSI, apprised the Ambassador of the workings of ISSI and its five “Centres of Excellence.”

In his presentation, Ambassador Ian Biggs said that as Australia and Pakistan mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, both countries are committed to working on bilateral issues of interest. On Australia’s foreign policy, he said that Australia believes strongly in the multi-lateral approaches to dealing with global challenges, and wants to work with partner countries to promote a rule-based world. He emphasised that multilateralism is the best approach to deal with and solve issues like poverty, Climate Change and security. Ambassador Biggs also shared the Australian perspective on nuclear non-proliferation and regional developments.

This was followed by an interactive discussion. Participants talked about a range of issues of mutual concern.
