Illegal migration has become a global challenge, triggered by socio-economic, political, and environmental factors. In Pakistan, many individuals risk their lives to escape poverty, unemployment, lack of education, and political instability in search of better opportunities and follow dangerous journeys. [1]In January, around 44 Pakistani migrants were tortured and died in a boat incident while attempting to reach Spain by illegally crossing the Atlantic Ocean.[2] Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed his deep condolence to the affected families, sought a detailed report about the incident from relevant authorities, and ordered strict actions against the culprits. Also, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Pakistani Embassy in Rabat were in contact with local authorities to ensure possible assistance for affected migrants. [3] The recent tragic boat Incident in Spain once again serves as a clear reminder of urgent actions against illegal migration in the hotspot areas of the country and the need for better migration policies.

Causes of Illegal Migration from Pakistan

Central Punjab districts, including Gujrat, Mandi Bhauddin, Sialkot, and Gujranwala, have become hotspot areas where the ratio of illegal migration to Europe has been higher for many decades.
